Celebrate H.P. Lovecraft on Sunday

PROVIDENCE - An annual gathering recognizing the life and literary contributions of Howard Philips Lovecraft, renowned horror fantasy writer, will be held Sunday, April 6, starting at 3 p.m. at Ladd Observatory, 210 Doyle Ave. at the corner of Hope Street.

Lovecraft was born in his grandfather's house on Providence's East Side and lived most of his life in the city. He was an avid, amateur astronomer and he regularly visited Ladd Observatory during his teen years.

This event, which typically draws attendance of 100 to 140 people, is free and open to the public. The program will include dramatic readings of the prose and poetry of Lovecraft, along with songs and recitations of poems composed for the occasion.

The presentation will take place on the front exterior of Ladd Observatory, but if there is significant rainfall it moves inside.

Attendees are welcome to wear vintage-style clothing or fantasy costumes reflecting the fiction of Lovecraft.
