Stadium Theatre presents 'Godspell'

WOONSOCKET - The Stadium Theatre and Shining Light Productions present the Broadway musical "Godspell" in the Stadium Theatre's new Marquee Room.

Based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew, and featuring a musical score by Stephen Schwartz, "Godspell" boasts a string of well-loved songs led by the hit "Day By Day." As the cast performs "Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All For The Best," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side," the parables of Jesus come to life.

Drawing from various theatrical traditions, such as clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics and vaudeville, this musical was a ground-breaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus.

"I've always loved Gosdpell," said the show's director, Mike Landry. "I love the humor, skits, dances, and most especially the emotion of the show. Being Catholic, the stories and overall concept of building community and following Jesus were very important to me.

"I also loved the music in the show. The mixture of upbeat, soft and emotional songs is unique and most of the songs have a rock and roll feeling to them which I really enjoy. My son Adam played some of the songs for me a few months back and I loved them so much that I decided then and there that I wanted to direct the show. That's how this journey began for me and I have loved every minute of it." The Marquis Room holds a maximum of 100 patrons. Tickets are $19.

The show will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m.; Sunday, April 13 at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, April 19, at 1 and 8 p.m.
