Woonsocket's Casey appointed deputy majority leader

WOONSOCKET – Rep. Stephen M. Casey, a Democrat from District 50 in Woonsocket, has been appointed a deputy majority leader by Speaker of the House Nicholas A. Mattiello.

The appointment was announced Tuesday, April 1 among a flurry of new committee and leadership appointments. Casey currently serves as a member of the House committees on labor and veterans’ affairs.

Deputy majority leaders work with the majority leader to determine legislative priorities and to meet the goals of the leadership team.

Casey has served in the House since his election in November 2012. In addition to his duties as a legislator, he is a firefighter in the city of Woonsocket and a member of the Rhode Island Freemasons, Rhode Island Shriners and Woonsocket Firefighters Union Local 732.
