WOONSOCKET - Nicole Lahousse, owner of Rising Lotus & Majik LLC, hands a guest to her shop a fork.

"Try to bend it," she says.

The fork is durable, restaurant-grade, and the visitor finds that it is, indeed, difficult to alter, and soon hands it back.

Lahousse takes a moment, breathing in with an expression that seems to focus inward, and in a quick motion warps the utensil, bending the tines nearly back to the handle.

"Anyone can do this," she says. "I hold workshops and teach people how to access the quantum field."

Such demonstrations are just the start of the what visitors will find at Lahousse's new store at 30 Main St. A North Smithfield native, Lahousse has been working with and studying metaphysics for more than six years, and her services include everything from psychic readings to aura photography. She's built her business promoting online and at trade shows, and by borrowing space from others in the field, and the move to a storefront in downtown Woonsocket marks an expansion for her unique brand of "healing services."

"It's scary and exciting at the same time," Lahousse said of the new endeavor.

The shop carries an assortment of natural products including oils and herbs, along with a variety of aids for focusing energy, meditation and protection, such as stones, incense, crystal skulls, angels and fairies. Healing sessions, meanwhile, focus on the health of both the mind and body.

"People come to Rising Lotus/Majik LLC for balance on all levels: physical, emotional and spiritual," the shop's flyer explains. "The combination of services offered by us creates a feeling of balance and well being."

While her focus on metaphysical instruction may seem strange to those unfamiliar with the techniques, Lahousse has spent years mastering her art, and confidently explains the principles and science behind her methods.

"It basically interacts with your meridians, which interacts with your bioelectromagnetic field - which is your aura - and captures that," Lahousse said of an aura camera, set up in a back room at the shop, and complete with hand plates.

"I've always been able to see auras," she said. "I've always been able to see and hear and talk to spirits, but that wasn't accepted in my family, so I kind of kept it to myself."

Now, Lahousse has a bachelor's degree in metaphysical science and is certified in Reiki, crystal therapy and quantum touch.

"I use these based on what the person comes in for, and what I intuit," she said. "What happens is the cells know how to heal themselves," Lahousse said. "I create a healing feel around the area of concern."

One of her more popular services involves contouring body wraps, a treatment that claims both cosmetic and therapeutic results, from pain relief to cellulite reduction. The wraps, Lahousse says, detoxify the body and can burn up to 1,400 calories in one sitting.

Lahousse also does readings and aura work at parties, and will perform paranormal investigations free of charge. Requests for such investigations and for services like home cleansings and blessings, come in nearly every week, she says.

"Woonsocket is actually a really haunted place," Lahousse explained.

The store opened for business Feb. 5, and starting this week, will also have a massage therapist on duty every Friday.
