Yard waste collection begins Monday

WOONSOCKET - Woonsocket residents are reminded that curbside pickup of yard waste for one-to-three-family properties will resume on Monday, April 14, and continue through Friday, June 20.

Place yard waste in compost bags or closed barrels, with lids, clearly marked "yard waste" and leave them curbside on your collection day by 7 a.m. Do not use any kind of tape to secure the bags closed.

The drop-off site in Blackstone, off Canal Street in North Smithfield, will be open Wednesdays, 8 a.m.-3 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m.-3:45 p.m., beginning April 16 for those residents having the appropriate yard waste sticker. All residential properties in the city of Woonsocket are included in the yard waste drop-off program. Stickers can be obtained at City Hall in the Department of Public Works, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., at a cost of $25. Proper identification and vehicle registration is required.

This year's stickers are purple; all white, burgundy, green, blue and pink colored yard waste stickers issued prior to January 2014 have expired.

Commercial vehicle registrations are excluded from this program.

This program is for yard waste only; it is illegal to combine yard waste and household waste. For more information, call the Solid Waste Division at 401-767-8880.
