Team Poirier walks for Sarcoma May 10

HUDSON, Mass. - Team Poirier will again be participating in the 10th annual "12,402 Steps to Cure Sarcoma Walk" at Hudson High School on May 10.

It has been eight years since June Poirier, Cumberland resident, wife and mother of two was diagnosed with sarcoma and Team Poirier was born. This is New England's only sarcoma walk and largest fundraiser for the Jennifer Hunter Yates Sarcoma Foundation. All proceeds will benefit the foundation, which funds sarcoma research, the Sarcoma Education Network, and patient and family support at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Sarcoma is a rare and deadly form of cancer that affects the connective tissue of the body. In Poirier's case, a sore shoulder brought her to the doctor in the spring of 2006, only to find a 4-inch tumor in her arm. Poirier had surgery and chemotherapy and is currently in remission.

If you are interested in walking, the Poiriers can be reached at 401-333-3760. Those wishing to donate can do so directly at www.firstgiving.com at the Jennifer Hunter Yates page, or checks payable to "JHYSF" can be mailed in care of June Poirier, 12 Wyoming Drive, Cumberland, RI 02864

Poirier and her husband, Joe, have two daughters, Nichole Donaldson and Alyssa Poirier.
