Team Tarro announces fifth Walk through the Park

PAWTUCKET - Team Tarro Inc., a local charitable organization focused on raising money for breast cancer research and early detection, will hold its 6th annual Walk Through the Park this Sunday, May 4, at Slater Park. The event opens at 9 a.m. at the Slater Park carousel, with the walk commencing at 10 a.m.

"We encourage families to join us to walk in the park for a good cause," said Dr. Robert Tarro. "Every dollar we raise goes toward the two organizations that Team Tarro supports, each of which has made important contributions to breast cancer care and research."

Since its inception in 2008, Team Tarro has raised more than $270,000 to support the work of the Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging at Rhode Island Hospital, to purchase the most advanced equipment available for cancer detection, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, to support the research efforts of breast cancer oncologist Dr. Ann Partridge.

Team Tarro was founded in 2000 by Mary Tarro, "a remarkable woman of strength and courage," according to a news release, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994 and lived with recurrences of the disease until she died in 2009. Her goal was to create a 100 percent volunteer team to lead fundraising efforts to ensure that early detection is made available to women in Rhode Island while supporting research efforts to eradicate the disease.

Refreshments, carousel rides and music provided by BoDee's Circle of Music will be available for the enjoyment of walkers and their families. Visit for online registration.
