Free Comic Book Day at the library

CUMBERLAND - The Cumberland Public Library, 1464 Diamond Hill Road, will celebrate its 13th annual Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The worldwide event showcases the joy of reading comic books with free giveaways and family events. The library will have programs for all ages running throughout the day.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the children's room will host super hero coloring and give out prizes to children who come in costume. Teens can bring in a T-shirt, bandana, canvas tote bag, or other fabric from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to learn how to screenprint a customized logo.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., makeup artist Candy Ranslow Skaba will be doing cosplay makeup for teens.

Comic strip author and illustrator Nathan DiPerri will draw caricatures from 2 to 4 p.m.

At 1:30 p.m., the library will screen "Thor: The Dark World."

While supplies last, there will be free comic books and prizes for teens and adults who come in costume.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Cumberland Public Library and Rubber Chicken Comics. No registration necessary. For more information, call 401-333-2552.
