Police find assault rifle, 47 marijuana plants during search and arrest at Greenville home

SMITHFIELD - Police on April 23 arrested a Greenville man on a variety of charges after entering his home at 6 Sprague St. and finding what they said were an AR-15 assault rifle, a 9mm handgun and ammunition for the weapons; $2,190 in cash, 47 marijuana plants and harvested marijuana, and related growing supplies.

Police said they entered the residence with a search warrant after months of surveillance by detectives.

They charged Anthony D. Rubino, 29, with unlawful manufacturing/cultivation of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, and two counts of possessing a firearm while committing a controlled substance crime. All the charges are felonies.

Police said they found most of the confiscated items in a bedroom and the plants in the basement.

Rubino appeared in 3rd District Court the next day and was later released on $20,000 surety bail set by Judge William C. Clifton.

His next scheduled court date is June 26.
