BRWC/Friends of Blackstone membership meeting Wednesday

LINCOLN - The Blackstone River Watershed Council/Friends of the Blackstone will hold its annual membership meeting and elections on Wednesday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the Blackstone River Environmental Center, 100 New River Road, Manville.

The group works to clean and preserve the Blackstone River and surrounding areas, offers educational outreach programs with area schools, fish advisory warnings, invasive plant removal, art projects, rain gardens, and stormwater education.

Members have also "adopted" the historic Elder Ballou Cemetery in Cumberland, maintaining the landscape, walls and monuments.

The group serves the towns of Burrillville, Central Falls, Cumberland, Glocester, Lincoln, North Smithfield, Pawtucket, Smithfield and Woonsocket. They are dedicated to making the Blackstone River fishable and swimmable, with programs dedicated to protecting, preserving enhancing the natural habitat of local river wildlife and creating recreational programs for the local residents to enjoy.

New and potential members are welcome to attend the meeting, but only members can vote for officers. The current officers are John Marsland, president; Sandra Belliveau, vice president; Alice Clemente secretary; Joe Pailthorpe, treasurer; Frank Matta, past president.
