Connor, Hasegawa top of 2014 class at Lincoln High School

LINCOLN - Ryan Connor is the valedictorian and Brian Hasegawa is the salutatorian of the Lincoln High School Class of 2014.

During a breakfast reception held in the high school library Wednesday, Principal Kevin McNamara announced the top 10 students. They are Ryan Connor, Brian Hasegawa, Martine Lokken, Xinrui Cheng, Shounak Bose, Jonathan Wahl, Andrew Mollohan, Jeffrey Sheehan, Derek Mollohan and Armaan Tandon.

The valedictorian is the son of Jere and Marianne Connor of Kendall Drive. He was recognized for his excellence in fencing and received the U.S. Fencing All-Academic Team Awards in 2011, 2012 and 2013. In addition, Connor is a Black Belt, 1st Poom Dan in Taekwondo.

He was a member of the National and Rhode Island Honor Societies and was commended by the National Merit Scholarship Program and recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction.

Connor received the 2013 Harvard Book Award and the Claiborne Pell Award in American history. He was also the recipient of the 2013 Lincoln Forum Scholarship.

In the fall, he will attend Brown University with a double concentration in economics and history.

Hasegawa, son of Alan and Lise Hasegawa of Lord Fox Run, was a member of the Life Society and the Math Team. He also performed in the concert and jazz band. During the past 10 years, he has played soccer and volleyball for several teams.

He was member of the National and Rhode Island Honor Societies. Hasegawa was the winner of the Holy Cross Book Award 2013 and earned two third-place finishes in the R.I. Science Olympiad. He scored ninth place on the French Grand Concours and was the highest scorer on the National Merit Exams.

Hasegawa is also a Life Scout and is currently in the final stages of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

In the fall, he will pursue a double concentration in applied math and economics at Brown University.
