Support Marissa's Run this weekend

On Saturday, May 17, at 9 a.m., the town of Lincoln will be gathering once again for the annual celebration of a beautiful life, lost in the year 2007.

Marissa Lorea was a sophomore at Lincoln High School when she passed away in a tragic car accident in Lincoln on Oct. 15, 2007. In the spring of 2008, her family set up a run in her honor. In the first year, more than 700 community members participated in "Marissa's Run". The run has been an annual event ever since.

In addition, the Marissa A. Lorea Scholarship Foundation was created. Each year it awards four scholarships of $2,000 to one Lincoln High School senior in each of the following activities: girls soccer, indoor track, outdoor track, and FBLA. Thus far, the foundation has awarded 34 scholarships to Lincoln High School students over the past six years.

Let's keep her memory alive and help fund education of the LHS students in this upcoming weekend with the annual run. The start and ending line will be at Lincoln High School, with the run being 2.5 miles. With a donation of $15, runners and walkers receive free T-shirts.

About seven years ago, a young girl was a victim of a car accident due to speeding; a life lost too early. Come out this upcoming Saturday to unite with the town and continue the tradition of celebrating a beautiful life.
