Herbert H. Entwistle - Lincoln

Herbert H. Entwistle, 96, of Lincoln passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 14, 2014, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence.

Herby was born in Pawtucket on March 11, 1918, to the late Herbert and Mary Evelyn (Martin) Entwistle.

He served as an MP in the U.S. Army during World War II, completing tours in North Africa and Italy. Upon returning from the War, he married the love of his life, Doris (Crooks) on September 22, 1945.

Herby worked as a Master Plumber throughout Rhode Island for many years before retiring. He was a member of the Golden Circle at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pawtucket, and the Rhode Island Strummers Ukulele Band.

Up until his last day, Herby enjoyed a variety of hobbies including the daily ProJo crossword puzzle, listening to music, singing, playing the harmonica and ukulele, traveling, telling stories about his life experiences (especially about the Great Depression and World War II), daily journaling, and reading. Earlier in his life, he was an avid gardener and enjoyed world-wide travel.

But nothing was more important than his family. Besides his wife of 68+ years, he leaves his daughter, Joan Pinto and her husband Joe; his two granddaughters, Joyce Burlingame and her husband Tom, and Jill Gould and her husband, LPD Capt. Philip Gould; his great-grandchildren, Jake and Jenna Burlingame, and Aidan and Reagan Gould, all of Lincoln. He also leaves his sisters, Alice Quinn of Lincoln and Eleanor Williams Schofield of Cumberland, as well as many nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by his son, Richard Entwistle, and his brother, John Edward Entwistle.

Funeral Services will be celebrated MONDAY, MAY 19 at 10 A.M. at BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Relatives and friends are invited and may call SUNDAY 2-5 P.M.
