Judge says no to Ciresi

PROVIDENCE - Superior Court Judge Robert Krause last Friday rejected an attempt by former North Providence police Sgt. Michael Ciresi to have his 20-year jail sentence reduced. Ciresi has served six years so far for burglary, attempted theft, and conspiracy, among other crimes.

Ciresi argued on a number of fronts, but Krause said the "enormity of the crimes" committed on multiple occasions by someone who was sworn to uphold the law was enough to keep him behind bars.

A jury found Ciresi guilty of nine offenses following a 2008 trial. He was caught after the suspect in the robbery of a Pawtucket drug dealer's home, Mark Pine, told police Ciresi enlisted him to do it. Pine was carrying Ciresi's gun.
