NORTH PROVIDENCE - On a comfortable Friday night, FOP Lodge 13 defeated Barone Construction, 6-2, in North Providence-Smithfield Babe Ruth action behind a superb pitching performance.

"Brady (Erickson) pitched a great game," FOP head coach Renny Arenas said. "And we only made three mental errors."

As middle school and high school baseball seasons conclude, the Babe Ruth rosters are filling out more and more. FOP Lodge, who has four JV players on their team, are now able to use these players and it paid off Friday night.

Erickson started things off on the right foot for FOP Lodge and continued to get stronger throughout the game while keeping his pitch count low.

Corey Mabray led off the first for Barone's and earned a walk. He was then quickly picked off of first for the first out. Erickson came back with a strikeout before Nick Maiorisi hit a bloop double to right.

There was no damage done as Erickson got Zac Rastelli to fly out to left. He had a perfect second inning while giving up another double in the third, this one to Thomas Krikorian. But there was still no damage done until the fourth. Maiorisi hit his second double of the night and scored on Phil Nasisi's single to right.

The only other run Erickson gave up was in the sixth as Mabray hit a leadoff double just fair down the left field line. He scored on Maiorisi's single to left.

Erickson pitched a complete game, giving up just two runs on seven hits. He also recorded four strikeouts.

Offensively FOP got on the board right away plating three runs in the bottom of the first.

"We hit all around," Arenas said. "Sam (Pappas) and Eric (Arenas) had good shots, back-to-back doubles. And we were on a roll from there."

Chris Caracciolo was on the mound for Barone's and went four innings giving up five runs. He also had two strikeouts. Rastelli, who began his night behind the plate, relieved Caracciolo in the fifth and gave up a run. He had four strikeouts.

After a long fly out to center to start the bottom of the first, Eric Arenas doubled to right center on the first pitch he saw. Pappas followed with a double to left, a liner, that scored Arenas. Erickson added to his own cause with an infield hit and stole second allowing Pappas to swipe home. Erickson scored on Zach Kenny's groundout to third.

FOP Lodge added two more runs in the third for the 5-0 lead. Ethan Graham, at the bottom of the order, got things going for FOP with a single to right. Scott Domenici also knocked a hit to right and both runs came around to score on hits by Arenas and Pappas.

Pappas scored the sixth run for FOP in the fifth inning against new pitcher Rastelli. He earned an infield hit to short, beating out the throw and stole second. He scored on Erickson's double to left.

FOP would also load the bases in the inning with back-to-back walks but Rastelli came back with a strikeout and picked off Erickson on third to end the inning. Rastelli gave up a walk in the sixth to Jake Cook, but he was left stranded at third. Erickson had a perfect one-two-three seventh to end the game at 6-2 in FOP Lodge's favor.
