Rep. Coderre honored for work toward equality

PAWTUCKET - The Women's Fund of Rhode Island and Women's Policy Institute last week honored state Rep. Elaine Coderre, of House District 60 in Pawtucket, and state Sen. Hanna Gallo, of District 27 in Cranston and Warwick, for their long-standing commitment to achieving gender equality in Rhode Island.

The two legislators were recognized at the graduation of the Women's Policy Institute Leadership program held at the Providence Art Club.

Among the reasons for the honor was their sponsorship this year of legislation to prohibit employers from discriminating against employees due to pregnancy or medical conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth, according to a news release.

Women's Fund of Rhode Island CEO Marcia Con?© credited Coderre for her work ensuring the passage of paid family leave in 2013, her commitment to women and girls in the state, and her continued collaboration with the Women's Policy Institute on legislation.
