Dick Lynch will lead Arnold Mills July 4th Parade

CUMBERLAND - Richard "Dick" Lynch, former longtime principal of Cumberland High School, first principal of North Cumberland Middle School, and well known teacher and football coach, has been selected as the grand marshal of this year's Arnold Mills July 4th Parade, announced the parade committee.

Lynch, father of four and grandfather of eight, also served as director of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League, as superintendent of the Smithfield School Department, CHS football coach and college basketball referee. He was married for 55 years to the late Mary (Hanewich) Lynch. Three of his grandchildren, Megan Bodziony, Alyssa Gauthier and Taylor Lynch, will join Lynch in the parade's grand marshal car.

"Dick Lynch has served the people of this town for many years as an educator and a role model for our young people," said Joyce Hindle Koutsogiane, parade association president. "He was 'Mr. Cumberland High School' to all those who worked for him.

"He is an excellent choice to be this year's grand marshal. We are pleased to honor a man who has donated so much of his time to this community and generations of our children."

This year's parade theme is "Proud to be an American." The four-division parade kicks off at 11 a.m. with firetrucks, military troops, antique and custom cars, bands, clowns, patriotic walkers, and floats, and proceeds down Nate Whipple Highway from the North Attleboro line into Arnold Mills.

Before the parade, the annual 4-mile road race will begin at 9 a.m. from the North Cumberland Fire Station. For road race information, call Tom Kenwood at 401-658-0831.

Following the parade, a Concert on the Green in front of Arnold Mills United Methodist Church, starting at 1 p.m., features the Night Life Orchestra.

Parade organizers always welcome parade participants. There is no charge to enter a float, car, bicycle or wagon, antique cars and trucks, or whatever you might want as long as it is family acceptable.
