Route 99 crash claims life of Woonsocket man

LINCOLN – A 21-year-old Woonsocket man was killed Wednesday night after the vehicle he was traveling in crashed on Route 99 in Lincoln, Rhode Island State Police said.

According to Capt. William Jamieson, Simon Ratsamy of Woonsocket sustained fatal injuries during the crash and died at Rhode Island Hospital.

The driver, 22-year-old Aarron Harmon of Bellingham, Mass., was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

Jamieson said that at 9:25 p.m. a blue Subaru Impreza was traveling southbound on Route 99 before Sayles Hill Road when it veered to the right, crossing the second lane of traffic. The vehicle struck a rock ledge on the grass shoulder, rolled over and came to rest in the left travel lane on its roof.

Police stated that both occupants were wearing seat belts.

Members of the State Police are investigating the crash but a preliminary investigation indicates that speed may have been a factor.
