Crowley running to put 'children first'

PAWTUCKET - City resident John J. Crowley says he's running for Pawtucket School Committee because he loves his city's schools and wants to put "children first."

"If elected, I would like to ensure the teachers are given the materials and resources that they need," said the Democrat in a news release. "By doing this, we are supporting our students and giving them what they require to become the brilliant young adults that we know they can be. This way we can get our graduation rate higher."

Crowley said he would like to see more after-school activities to help students who are having trouble with some of their classes and keep them off the streets.

The candidate would also like to see upgrades to local school facilities.

"They need to be safe for our children," he said. He understands there's a bond question on the ballot for this fall, but more money is needed.

"I will work together with the other committee members to get all possible and available funding from the state of Rhode Island and from the federal government," he said. "Our children and teachers deserve this and to feel safe in school every day."
