Dogapalooza coming to Slater Park Aug. 2-3

PAWTUCKET - The Dogapalooza Summer Festival 2014 is coming to the city on Saturday, Aug. 2, and Sunday, Aug. 3.

The Pawtucket Dog Park Committee is sponsoring the annual fundraiser at Slater Memorial Park. There will be vendors selling everything from pet items to food, jewelry, candles, gifts and more. The fun is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Daggett Farm in the middle of the park.

On Saturday, come cheer on your favorite baker or enter yourself in the "Very Best Apple Pie Contest." Judges will include Valley Breeze Online News Editor Ethan Shorey. The deadline for entries to be received is July 25. Pies will be judged on overall appearance, taste and overall impression.

Saturday's activities will also include music by Bo Dee's Circle of Music from 1 to 5 p.m., and a laughter yoga session at 11 a.m. There will be games and a penny social.

On Sunday, relax under the trees and enjoy an 11 a.m. performance from the Whirlygigs. After the performance, enjoy a chocolate pie-eating contest at 1 p.m. Registration for the eating event will begin on Saturday at the Committee Tent.

Len's Snack Shack will offer refreshments. The Committee Tent will have raffles and Dog Park-related items for sale like T-shirts, sweatshirts and collar charms.

The event happens rain or shine and dogs are welcome.
