UPDATE: All but five candidates certified to run

PAWTUCKET - Five declared candidates for elected office in the city failed to get their required signatures in by last Friday's deadline to run, said registrar Ken McGill.

Two of those candidates, Melissa DaRosa for City Council District 5 and Amy Zolt for School Committee, never picked up nomination papers to collect signatures.

Raymond Noonan, a previous member of the School Committee who was running as an independent, and Douglas Maiko, who was running as a Democrat, did not submit the required number of signatures to run, leaving the total number of candidates for the school board at 11.

There are 10 Democrats who will run in a primary to win a spot in the top seven.

Those top seven will then run with independent John Tellini in the general election. Only one person will be eliminated.

Bob Venturini, who was running as an independent against the winner of a Democratic primary between Jean Philippe Barros and John Arcaro in House District 59, failed to submit enough signatures to run.

All other races remain as they were.
