Lincoln's 10's claim title too

Staging another dramatic last inning comeback, the Cumberland Americans Little League Majors all-star team overcame Cranston West, taking an 8-7 win to claim this year's Rhode Island championship Thursday night in Bristol, R.I..

The team will advance to the New England tournament in Bristol, Conn., where they will play their first game on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m.

The winner of the New England tournament will advance to play in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn.

In other finals action, the Lincoln Little League 10-year-old all-star team won the state championship with a 7-5 victory over Johnston Thursday night at Ayotte
Field, in Woonsocket.

The new champs broke out to a 7-0 lead early, and then had to hold on as Johnston battled back and nearly pulled out the game.

Lincoln will next play in the New England Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. Against the Massachusetts state champion. The tournament is being hosted by Cranston Western Little League.
