AIDS Walk for Life is set for Sept. 27

PROVIDENCE - The 29th annual AIDS Walk for Life that starts and ends on the Statehouse lawn will be held Saturday, Sept. 27.

On-site registration for the 2.5-mile walk begins at 9 a.m., with the kick-off at 10 a.m. Registration is also available online at www.aidsprojectri.org or www.firstgiving.com/aidswalkri .

AIDS Walk 2014 T-shirts are available to anyone who raises $100 or more, while supplies last.

"The walk, over its nearly 30-year history, has become not only a fundraiser but a huge gathering of people across Rhode Island who care about fighting HIV/AIDS," said Thomas Bertrand, AIDS Project Rhode Island executive director. "It has also become a family event that is educational, fun, and an opportunity to get some exercise while supporting an important cause."

The walk has the HIV/AIDS prevention theme "Do It Right," reflecting the theme of the campaign kicked off in June by AIDS Project Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Department of Health, Miriam Hospital and the Rhode Island Public Health Institute.

Free, anonymous and rapid testing for HIV will be available on site.

Entertainment will be provided by the Providence Gay Men's Chorus. Free food, coffee and giveaways will be available.

Parking will be free in the open state administration lot on Smith Street.

Sponsorship and general information is available by contacting Julie Casimiro at julie@aidsprojectri.org or 401-519-2289.
