Dogapalooza returns Aug. 2-3

PAWTUCKET - The Dogapalooza Summer Festival returns this Saturday, Aug. 2, and Sunday, Aug. 3. The Pawtucket Dog Park Committee is sponsoring the annual fundraiser at Slater Memorial Park. The fun is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Daggett Farm in the middle of the park.

On Saturday, come at 2 p.m. to cheer on your favorite baker in the "Very Best Apple Pie Contest." Pies will be judged on overall appearance, taste and overall impression. Valley Breeze Online News Editor Ethan Shorey will be on the panel of judges.

Saturday's activities will also include music by Bo Dee's Circle of Music from 1 to 5 p.m., and a laughter yoga session at 11 a.m. There will be games and a penny social.

Enjoy fun and games including a Plinko game sponsored by Dave & Buster's. Watch Chainsaw sculpture performance artist Michael Higgins create carvings, which will be raffled off.

Len's Snack Shack will offer refreshments. The Committee Tent will have raffles and Dog Park-related items for sale like T-shirts, sweatshirts and collar charms.

The Rhode Island chapter of the Masons will be offering its child identification program on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Have your child's fingerprints and photo taken and get a safety kit to bring home. Also, the Pawtucket Board of Canvassers will be on hand helping folks register to vote for this year's elections.

On Sunday, relax under the trees and enjoy an 11 a.m. performance from the Whirlygigs. Enjoy a chocolate pie-eating contest at 1 p.m. The contest is open to all ages. Registration for the eating event will begin on Saturday at the Committee Tent.

The festival happens rain or shine and dogs are welcome.
