William P. Glad - Cumberland

William P. Glad, 37, of Cumberland, passed away in an accidental drowning in New Hampshire on Friday, August 1, 2014.

Born in Providence, he was the beloved son of Thomas and Connie (Bergeron) Glad. He was a life-long resident of Cumberland.

Billy was a Cumberland High School Class of 1995 graduate. He was a varsity captain of the hockey and football teams.

Following high school, Bill graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in history from Norwich University, Class of 1999, and was a member of the football team. He later attended Rhode Island College and Providence College where he earned his teaching certifications.

Mr. Glad was a secondary education teacher for the Providence School Department for 12 years. He was currently working at Delsesto Middle School where he was a department chairman, and he was coach of the city championship basketball team. He previously was an assistant football coach at La Salle Academy for 10 years.

Bill loved boating and fishing, but most of all loved the time spent with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he leaves his sister Donna Barboza and her husband David of Cumberland, his brother Michael Glad and his wife Lori of Cumberland, and his sister Laura Kutsaftis and her husband James of Middletown; his nieces and nephews Dave, Olivia and Adam Barboza, Heather, Jasmine, Chrystal and Cameron Glad, all of Cumberland; as well as Trevor, Taylor, Talia and Tyra Kusaftis, all of Middletown. He also leaves four great-neices and great-nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, with a prayer service at 10 a.m. in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4-8 p.m.
