'1,000 Works on Paper' exhibit opening at RIWS

PAWTUCKET - The Rhode Island Watercolor Society announces its upcoming fundraiser exhibition, which celebrates all small works on paper, including water media, pen and ink, pencil and collage, of 9-by-12-inches or smaller. All work entered to this show has been donated by the artist to be included in the exhibit, and will be on display from Aug. 9 through Sept. 4, at the society's gallery, located at the J. C. Potter Casino in Slater Memorial Park, Armistice Boulevard. Each work will be sold for $20 and the money raised will go to the Rhode Island Watercolor to continue its ongoing tradition of free admission to the gallery, as well as offering low-cost classes and workshops.

An exhibition party will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the gallery, with live music by singer/songwriter James Dalton, a buffet catered by B&M Catering, and various raffles for items including vouchers for free classes and workshops at RIWS and gift certificates from local businesses. There will also be a silent auction of work donated by a few of the RIWS instructors. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.
