Woonsocket hospital signs contract with United Healthcare

WOONSOCKET – Eight months after the acquisition of Landmark Medical Center by California-based Prime Health Services, the facility has signed an contract with one of the area's largest insurers.

UnitedHealthcare signed a three-year agreement with the hospital this week, providing the insurer's commercial, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid members with in-network access to its acute care hospital and its 52 staff physicians.

United covers thousands of northern Rhode Islanders, and is second in size statewide behind Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island. The hospital purchase became official on Dec. 31, 2013, but officials from Prime were reportedly unable to negotiate a contract United through the start of the year. In May, the healthcare giant filed an application with the Department of Health asking to drop Landmark Medical Center from its coverage network. That application has now been withdrawn.

The new agreement is effective immediately.
