John H. McElroy - Scituate

John H. “Jack” McElroy, 88, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014. He was the beloved husband for 53 years of Isabelle E. (McCormick) McElroy and a son of the late James and Margaret (Maguire) McElroy.

Jack worked at Narragansett Electric until his retirement in 1990 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a sports enthusiast and historian and a passionate Red Sox fan. He also loved the Bruins and Patriots. He worked for the Rhode Island Reds, and later as a penalty box attendant for the Providence Bruins alongside his brother, Bart.

He was also very involved with the Boys Club, Special Olympics and loved coaching Little League. He loved classical music and traveling. He was also an animal lover and leaves behind his cherished sheepdog, Rocket.

He also leaves his two daughters, Anne-Marie Magao and Meredith McElroy Grillo and her husband Joseph Grillo; and grandchildren, Candace Hopkins and John and Joseph Grillo. He was the brother of Bart McElroy, and the late James, Robert, Catherine McElroy, Margaret Ryan and Sarah Homenick.

His funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 23 at 8 a.m. from the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Avenue (Rt.44), Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Danielson Pike, North Scituate. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visitation is Friday from 4-8 p.m.
