Amoriggi questions financial feasibility of school rebuild plan

NORTH PROVIDENCE - Kenneth J. Amoriggi, candidate for the at-large School Committee seat, questioned in a press release whether the taxpayers of North Providence can afford the costs associated with the master plan that will be presented to the School Committee.

"As I have previously stated, I am an advocate for upgrading and modernizing our schools. However, I am not sure our taxpayers can afford to foot a $50 million tab to do so," said Amoriggi.

Amoriggi said he would advocate strongly for public presentations for the town's citizens.

"If this matter is to come before the voters as a referendum, the voters should first be able to hear testimony from financial professionals regarding what the true costs will be long term. I will fight to make sure that the taxpayers have access to transparent, unbiased testimony on this subject," he said.

Amoriggi said he is especially concerned with those on fixed incomes. "Those on fixed incomes, especially the elderly, cannot afford for their taxes to go up. Frankly, most people can't. We need to balance this reality with our need to modernize and improve our schools."
