LINCOLN - A new real estate firm, headed by longtime appraiser and Lincoln school volunteer Susan E. Kelly, has opened at 897 Smithfield Ave., in the building with Cafe Sowa.

Fenix Real Estate, pronounced like the city of Phoenix, is the name chosen by Kelly using the Old English spelling for a word representing "prosperity" and "happiness."

For several years, Kelly has been owner of Appraisal Solutions, of Lincoln, where she and several associates in Massachusetts as well as Rhode Island worked with local lenders on both residential and commercial appraisal. A graduate of Providence College, she has 25 years of business experience, and began her appraisal career with Axelrod Realty & Appraisal 10 years ago. Prior to that, she helped build the start-up Software Quality Associates, where she gained IT experience. "That experience helps me keep up with the today's demanding federal and state requirements," said Kelly.

Parents of older children in Lincoln might remember Kelly's years of volunteer work in the schools. She coordinated many cultural arts programs at Central Elementary, Lincoln Middle, and Lincoln High School as her children - Ryan, Rachel and Luke - went through the system. Kelly has also raised, for the past five years, Oshe-Lin-Saine, a young man from Gambia who will attend Boston College next fall. Kelly is a member of the Rotary Club of Cumberland-Lincoln, and continues to volunteer with Manville's Family Literacy Learning Center and the Blackstone Valley Children's Shelter of Pawtucket. She was instrumental in bringing the "Life of An Athlete" program to LHS. She was also on the School Improvement Team.

With the new Fenix Real Estate comes growth. Now, there will be three real estate brokers and eight appraisers on the team, serving Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Included on the team is Jackie Clegg, of Cumberland, and Christine Dupuis, of Smithfield. When asked what will set them apart, Dupuis sounded entrepreneurial: "We'll work harder to ensure a client's satisfaction," she said.

Echoed Kelly, "We expect to set a higher level of professionalism" in our group. "We know value and understand the changing markets."
