Recall petition will likely fall short

NORTH SMITHFIELD - A petition to recall Town Administrator Paulette Hamilton will likely fall short of the needed signatures to trigger a recall election, according to the man who first pulled the document.

President of the Association of Support Staff Personnel for the North Smithfield School system David Lowe said he believes the recall petition will have signatures from around 2,000 town residents, well shy of the 30 percent of eligible voters needed to potentially oust the administrator.

Lowe pulled the petition in objection to what he says has been a lack of leadership from Hamilton, pointing to issues in the town tax assessor's office, and her support of a new charter school scheduled to serve North Smithfield students this fall, the RISE Prep Mayoral Academy. Resident Stephen Vowels also pulled a copy of the petition in hopes to help with the effort.

As of The Valley Breeze's press deadline, Lowe said he did not yet have an exact count on how many residents have signed the document, as several copies of the petition have yet to be returned.

"There are still quite a few out," Lowe said. "A lot of people took them and said that they'll be back with them."

Petitioners had 30 days from the start of the effort to garner 2,990 signatures, with the document is due back to the town clerk today, Thursday, July 2.

Lowe said he was not discouraged by the failure.

"We took the shot and we'll see what happens in the future," he said.

Do you care about your veteran neighbours losing their home for missing a tax payment?

Do you care about your elderly veteran neighbours going without medication and food because they are on a fix income and cannot afford tax increase after increase?

Do you care about the veteran in town who is always hungry?

I bet you support the 24.5 million dollar school department budget, 80% going to your NON-VETERAN, part-time union's friends (teachers, janitors, food service and the teacher's nurses that due not teach but pay union dues).

Email Etiquette Tip - DON'T SHOUT!

If you USE ALL CAPS in your email or message board posts, you will immediately make yourself seem inexperienced or ignorant.

Most experienced computer users consider the use of all capital letters to be the Internet equivalent of shouting.

For those of us who spend a lot of time hanging out in cyberspace, messages written in all capital letters are reminiscent of trying to hold a conversation in which one person is shouting every word while others are speaking at a normal volume.

Btw; Unions are what made America great. It put food on the table and a roof over the heads of Millions of Americans !!!

You are yelling again !!!

I am on a fixed income.

No one will go hungry in North Smithfield. It is an affluent community and we have a food pantry and I give all I can to everything in town.

We are all getting old. The children are the future !!!

If you believe the children is our future, you would never support the school teacher's union who fight to keep their bad teachers in the classroom. What part of the words "Bad Teachers" do you not understand?

If you did not spend all your time with the rich union part-time teachers and school support staff, maybe you could see the poor in North Smithfield. I have talked to people who ran out of oil last winter because they had no money. Some of these poor people are real veterans.

We have bad teachers in North Smithfield ?

We have some of the finest teachers in the country !!!

Out of oil ? The they should have gotten a voucher from BVCAP or called Joe Kennedy. No One should go without heat.

Post the names of the people you know and I will get them oil.

Real Veteran ? I am a highly decorated veteran.

All veterans are real veterans, shame on you !!!

We sacrifice and most suffer so you and your family and friends can have a nice day. Some of us don't !!!

There are a lot of good teachers in town.

My friend who was a union school teacher decided to leave her position after a union rep. told her she cannot help students after class because it made the other union teachers look bad.
ASK your union friends.

Yes, we do have some very good teachers, they would be even better without this union.

Remember, It take only one Bad apple to spoil the barrow.

Teacher's unions will always protect bad teachers from losing their job, causing irreversible harm to children. that the reason charter schools are so much better.

No one should go without heat because they have no money.
No one should lose their home for missing a tax payment.
No one should have to go hungry in North Smithfield.
(2015 NS budget: NS Food Pantry town expense $200. Yes $200)
No one should have to cut their medication in haft to pay their taxes.

I am glad that you are a real veteran. I was not sure!!!
