Carol F. (Foley) Bedard – Cumberland

Carol F. (Foley) Bedard, of Cumberland passed away on August 29, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Brigadier General Normand L. Bedard. Born in Providence, Carol was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Mildred E. (Walker) Foley.

Carol was the devoted mother of William M. Bedard, of Sarasota, Fla., and the loving mother of Caleb J. Bedard and Dawn H. Bedard. She was the mother of Bethany C. Colombo of Winter Park, Fla., and Brooke A. Bedard, and the cherished Nonnie of Andrew P. Colombo; dear sister of Joseph (Barbara) Foley of Wilmington, N.C. She leaves several extended family members and many dear and close friends.

Carol graduated from Roger Williams Hospital School of Nursing, Assumption College, and Roger Williams University, Summa Cum Laude. She held Masters Degrees from Assumption College and was certified in Rehabilitation, Counseling, and Grief Counseling.

Her professional career was concentrated in the areas of nursing, education, and hospital administration. For over 40 years she volunteered to assist and plan for the care of elderly Friars at Providence College.

In 1998, she held the position of Executive Nurse of the state hospitals of Rhode Island. She was a consultant in accreditation standards in nursing homes and extended care facilities.
She was on the Healthcare Advisory Committee of the Dominican Friars in the Province of St. Joseph in New York City.

Carol was awarded the Laudare medal by the Dominican Friars at Providence College and the Benemerenti medal bestowed by the Master General of the Dominican Order.

For over 26 years, she was a visiting lecturer/adjunct professor in the School of Continuing Education at Providence College. Carol was a member of the Board of Directors of the Marianapolis Preparatory School.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the A.A. Mariani and Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St., Providence. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in St. John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial Ceremony to follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter.
