Pawtucket policeman uses CPR to save fellow gym member

PAWTUCKET – A Pawtucket police officer enjoying an early morning workout at a city gym is being credited with saving someone after they stopped breathing.

According to Pawtucket police, Detective Sgt. Christopher Lefort was working out before his shift when another gym patron had a medical episode and collapsed on the floor.

Lefort "quickly assessed the situation, directed an employee to call 911, and began to perform CPR on the person, who had stopped breathing," said police in a post. He continued to perform CPR until rescue personnel arrived and took over.

"The victim was transported to the hospital and at last check was doing well," said police. "Kudos to Detective Sgt. Lefort."
