Marjorie L. Baker – Cumberland

Marjorie L. Baker, 92 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, in Mt. St. Rita Health Center, Cumberland. She was the wife of the late Ralph H. Baker Sr, they were married for 51 years.

Born in Providence, she as the daughter of the late John and Julia (Becker) Mullen. Mrs. Baker resided in Cumberland for the past 66 years. She resided in Pawtucket until she married in 1947.

As one of the first communicants of the Four Corners Community Chapel, Cumberland, Mrs. Baker enjoyed her many years as a member of the church choir. Music was among her passions, and she composed her own copywrited and performed hymn. She was also an opera buff and loved attending MET performances in New York City.

Her home, her children and passion for cooking brought her greatest joys. She was an avid golfer, a nursing home volunteer and a gardener and was known best for her many beautiful rose gardens. At a Cumberland Town Hall meeting in the 1950s, Mrs. Baker's proposal to change the name of her residential street to Country Hill Road won the town street its official name.

She is survived by her children, Raph H. Baker Jr. and Janice Baker both of Cumberland and her sister Dorothy J. Swisher of Franklin, N.H. She was the sister of the late Carl Gilbert Mullen of South Attleboro, Mass.

A private celebration of her life will be planned at the Four Corners Community Chapel. Donations may be made in her memory to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 1085 North Main Street Providence, RI 02904.
