Fagnant takes on role in Summer Sizzler wrestling event July 29

WOONSOCKET – “Let’s get ready to rumble,” bellowed City Councilor Richard Fagnant, practicing for his guest role at an upcoming event at American Legion Post 85.

Fagnant has agreed to take part in the “Summer Sizzler,” a New World Wrestling Extreme event.

He’ll be a special guest at the Saturday, July 29, wrestling match, serving as the announcer for the main event.

Fagnant says he was contacted by NWWE owner/promoter James Allen and asked to take part in the event, which will feature live professional wrestling by the NWWE fighters.

The councilor says he was thrilled by the offer.

“When they asked me, I was in my glory,” he said. “I grew up with wrestling. People love it.”

A flyer for the event shows the councilor in front of an ocean view, and includes the city emblem.

The announcer role, Fagnant said, will suit him well.

“I’m a very animated man. I’ve been a thespian all my life, on the big stage of life,” said Fagnant. “Richard Fagnant is not just a good guy and a councilman, but I’m suited for everything that comes along in my lifetime.”

Asked if President Donald Trump’s history with wrestling, and the president’s recent tweet of a doctored photo of him punching the CNN logo, inspired him to take part, Fagnant said his decision was unrelated. But he added that he has much in common with the nation’s leader.

“Trump and I are similar in our beliefs and our passion, and we’re not afraid to laugh at ourselves,” Fagnant said.

He said that he would consider stepping up his involvement and actually wrestling at a future match, as the president did at a WWE match in 2007.

“Maybe the next time,” he said. “There’s certain people I’d like to call out and ask them to wrestle.”

The Summer Sizzler will take place July 29 at American Legion Post 85 Pavillion, 870 River St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the bell time is at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door and can be purchased by calling the American Legion at 401-766-7585.

Fagnant and Trump are basically twins.

Then Fagnant has my vote!!
