AFGS will hold presentation and open house this weekend

WOONSOCKET – The American French Genealogical Society announces the following programs.

• A presentation on “The Marriageable Women of Early Canada” at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Franco American Heritage Center, 78 Earle St.

Peter Gagne, French Canadian researcher and author will give the presentation, relating the lives of the young women who came to New France between 1634 and 1662 leaving behind a civilized country to face the perilous ocean voyage and sharing life with a pioneer settler while facing the daunting challenge of clearing a homestead and attacks by the Iroquois Nation—all for the glory of God and King.

• An open house in its library located in the Franco American Heritage Center on Sunday, Sept. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. Anyone interested in learning how to start their genealogy and how to use the vast resources of its research library is welcome.
