Smithfield High School awarded gold standard for finance pathway

SMITHFIELD – Smithfield High School is only one of four high schools in Rhode Island to be awarded a gold standard by Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF), a nonprofit organization that connects educators with free resources to equip students with the knowledge and skills to lead financially successful and fulfilling lives. NGPF commissioned a study that found that only 1 in 6 students nationwide graduates from a high school with a gold standard designation.

To achieve the gold standard, a high school must have at least a semester course in personal finance required for graduation. Smithfield High School not only has relevant coursework in finance, but also offers a Finance Academy for high school students interested in a career in finance and business.

Smithfield residents and nonresidents interested in more information about the Finance Academy, Early Childhood Education Academy, Engineering Tech Academy, and the new Academy for Public Safety and Cybersecurity can attend the SHS School Showcase on Nov. 30, at 6 p.m.
