Cumberland’s Giorgio receives New England football honor at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The honors continued to roll in for Cumberland’s Nick Giorgio, a junior defensive end on the Springfield College football team, as last week, he earned a spot on the New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England team.

In addition to earning NEWMAC (New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference) Defensive Athlete of the Year honors, the 2015 graduate of Cumberland High, who was an All-State football player and wrestler for the Clippers, also received CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association of America) Academic All-District honors, as the business management major produced a 3.44 GPA.

This season, Giorgio was second on the team with 65 tackles, including 46 unassisted stops, and established a program record for tackles-for-loss in a season with 26, including 10½ sacks.

He also ranked second in the nation in tackles-for-loss per game (2.4) and helped Springfield rank seventh in the nation in both scoring defense (12.0 points per game) and total defense (233.8 yards per game).
