Lincoln Lions’ U10 football team loses first two games of AYF Nationals

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Lincoln Lions’ U10 football team’s trip to the AYF (American Youth Football) National Championships turned out to be a bumpy one.

The Lions suffered back-to-back 35-0 losses at Austin-Tindall Park, with the first taking place on Sunday afternoon in their opener with the Southside (Texas) Ducks and the latter coming two days later to the Carolina (S.C.) Bulldogs.

The Ducks will take on the Virginia Beach Hurricanes in today’s finals.

The Lions, who were making their first venture to the nationals, entered the tournament with an 11-2 record that included four victories in the postseason.

The last two came over unbeaten teams at Durfee High School’s Mac Aldrich Field in Fall River, Mass., as the Lions captured the BVYFC (Blackstone Valley Youth Football Conference) Super Bowl on Nov. 5 by defeating the Fairlawn Cardinals, 27-13, and the AYF New England title by holding off the Meriden (Conn.) Raiders, 7-0.
