Robert J. Draper – Cumberland

Robert J. Draper, 80, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Sunday, December 24, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Bauman) Draper. They were happily married for 53 years. Born in Springfield, Mass., he was the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Conway) Draper and after his father passed away, the late John Hayes.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Cumberland. He began his career in education as a schoolteacher in the Lincoln School Department. Bob then went to work for the Cumberland School Department serving as principal of Saint Joan of Arc School and later Saint Patrick School, both in Cumberland. Upon retiring from the Cumberland School Department after 24 years, he continued his career as a Principal in the Central Falls School Department for the next 15 years. He capped off a career in education by returning to Cumberland and serving in various schools as an interim principal.

A longtime parishioner of Saint John Vianney Church, Bob was active in many aspects in the parish, including the Men’s Club, serving as a Lector and was a trustee of the parish for many years. He also served on the Cumberland School Committee for 10 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Timothy Draper and his wife, Deborah, and daughter Kathryn Draper, his sister, Paula Kolodny, his brother, John Hayes, and his grandchildren, Rebecca Kurisko, Alexander and Benjamin Draper. He was the brother of the late David Draper.

The funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m., from the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., in Saint John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 3-7 p.m., in the O’Neill Funeral Home.
