Mary E. Viveiros – Coventry

Mary E., Viveiros, 95, of Coventry, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center.

Born in Fall River, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Edward A. and Mary E. (O’Connor) Wentworth.

During World War II, Mary worked as a secretary at the Newport Torpedo Station. After the war, she went to school for her LPN and worked as a nurse at Kent County Hospital starting in 1962. She attended the birth of hundreds of babies during the years that followed, and at one point it was said that if you were born at Kent, “Mary probably powdered your bottom on the way out of the delivery room.” She retired in the late 1980s and spent her remaining years traveling and helping to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving children, Edward Viveiros and his wife, Patricia, of North Smithfield and Katherine Roach and her husband, Kenneth, of St. Cloud, Fla.; five grandsons, Christopher, Timothy and Jeffrey Viveiros, and Paul and James Roach; and four great-granddaughters, Julia and Madeline Viveiros, and Kaleigh and Kaitlyn Roach. She was the sister of the late Edward and Thomas Wentworth and Catherine Shay.

Her Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, Jan. 11, in St. Mary’s Church, West Warwick. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Warwick. Visiting hours were held in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117) Coventry.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island, 1085 N Main St., Providence, RI 02904 would be appreciated.
