Richard W. Smith – Lincoln

Richard W. Smith, 93, of Lincoln, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Carolyn F. Smith.

Born in Providence, son of the late Warren H. and Sarah (MacKnight), Smith grew up in Fairlawn, Pawtucket, and graduated from Pawtucket West High School in 1942 prior to moving to Lincoln. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran. He was the owner of R.W. Smith Construction for 30 years and retired in 1986. Richard was a 50-year member of Smithfield Avenue Congregational Church in Pawtucket.

He was the loving father of four children; daughter, Sandra J. Mitchell, of Lincoln, and sons Richard W. (wife Marilyn Fournier) of Orlando, Fla., and Raymond W. (deceased), and Stephen A. (wife Maureen McKinnon) of Lincoln. He was the grandfather of Christopher W. (wife Stacy) of Virginia Beach, Va., Justin W. (wife Joy) of Franklin, Tenn., Ian R. (fiancée Tiffany) of Lincoln. He was the great-grandfather of Riley, Jackson and Kaitlyn.

He was the brother of Warren H. Jr. of Lincoln, David A. (deceased), and sister, Barbara J. Holmes, of Barrington. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service with military honors was held January 13, in the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Ave., Lincoln. As part of the military honors, Richard's grandson Petty Officer Christopher W. Smith presented the United States flag from the military honors to his grandmother, Carolyn F. Smith.
