Nancy Marie Ryan – Cumberland

Nancy Marie Ryan, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 3, 2018, in Ft. Myers, Fla.

Nancy was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on May 30, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Ella M. (Dewees) Saffer and is survived by her children, Patricia (Ryan) Freve and her husband, Albert Freve, of Fort Myers, Fla.; Susan Ryan of Middletown, R.I.; and Richard Ryan and his wife, Kathleen Ryan, of Harrisville, R.I. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Freve and wife, Sara; Lauren Freve and fiancé, Kevin Hanson; Christina (Ryan) Danue and her husband, Jason Danue; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Samantha Danue, and several nieces and nephews.

Nancy graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School in Philadelphia. She loved to ride horses, summer vacations camping at Beach Haven, N.J., and her dog, Woo.

She moved to Cumberland, R.I., where she raised her children. She was a member of St. John Vianney Church and enjoyed spending time at Abbott Run Valley Club with family and friends cheering on swim meets and tennis matches. Her hobbies included tennis, card games, entertaining, volunteering, traveling and painting.

Nancy loved people and pursued a career in sales. She enjoyed working at Bancroft Sporting Goods in Woonsocket, R.I., and reluctantly retired at age 70 from Health Enterprises in Attleboro, Mass., after 18 years as a sales representative.

She has more recently resided in Fort Myers with her daughter and son-in-law, enjoying the sunshine and warm weather and sharing her kindness, humor and zest for life with everyone she met.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland, on Saturday, February 10, at 11 a.m. Committal prayers will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited.
