Richard “Dickie” Byrd – Woonsocket

Richard “Dickie” Byrd, 74, of Priscilla Road, died Tuesday, January 22, 2018, at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield with his family by his side.

He was the husband of Josephine “Josie” (Dandy) Byrd. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Richard was the son of the late Will and Maggie (Ebo) Byrd.

Richard worked as a security guard for Securitas EMC in Franklin for 10 years. Prior to EMC, he was a United Auto Worker for General Motors for 24 years. He was also owner and operator of the New Dad’s Place in Woonsocket for 13 years.

Richard was a member of St. James Baptist Church in Woonsocket and served as treasurer and trustee for several years. He was a member of the Masonic Temple - The Masons, Tyra Club, United Auto Workers Union, and the NAACP.

Richard is survived by his four children, Kevin Coleman of Woonsocket, Freddie Coleman of North Carolina, Ryan (Tonia) of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jeanne Byrd Adams (Bryce) of New York, N.Y.; four sisters, Marlene Sutton and Marcia Holmes both of Pennsylvania; Dora Wilson of Woonsocket, Ida Jones, and one brother, Freddie Byrd, both of Norristown, Pa.; and five grandchildren, Candace Ellis, Rodney and Alleyah Byrd, Kyerrah Byrd, and Jordan Adams. He was also the father of the late Rodney C. Byrd and brother of the late William Ebo and Margie Mathis.

Calling hours are on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, from 4-7 p.m., at the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket, RI 02895. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at 3 p.m., at St. James Baptist Church, 340 South Main St, Woonsocket, R.I. Burial will be on Monday, January 29, 2018, at 10 a.m., in Union Cemetery, Smithfield Road, North Smithfield, R.I. Relatives and friends are invited.
