Ronald J. Cournoyer – Woonsocket

Ronald J. Cournoyer, 61, of Woonsocket went to the Lord on Monday, January 29, 2018, at the Philip Hulitar Center in Providence after losing his battle with cancer.

Born in 1956 at Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Territory of Alaska, he was the son of Jacqueline (Gauthier) (Cournoyer) Auclair and the late Capt. Roland “Rusty” Cournoyer, U.S. Army.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Joshua Cournoyer (Ashlee), and their children Evan and Aaliyah of Lincoln and his daughter, Sabrina Garneau (Andrew), and their children Zachary Tellier, Maxymus and Aaron Garneau and their grandson, Zachary Tellier, Jr., all of Woonsocket. Ronald also leaves his brothers Marc A. Cournoyer, with whom he resided in Woonsocket, and Paul M. Cournoyer (Deborah) of Blackstone, and many nieces and nephews.

Ronald was a hydraulic engineer for 35 years working most recently for Dejana Truck and Utility Equipment Company in Smithfield and previously worked for Janelle’s Truck Fabrication and Jansco. He had volunteered to do welding work on the reconstruction of the Mercy Boxcar that in on display in the Museum of Work and Culture in Woonsocket.

Ronald was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather and treasured spending time with his family. He also enjoyed tinkering on mechanical projects with his son and his brothers in Paul’s garage. He was in the process of restoring a vintage 1985 Chevy Monte Carlo. Ron’s subtle sense of humor and his habit of giving unique names to friends and family will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. His funeral will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Dana Farber Medical Center, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA. 02215, in Ronald’s memory would be appreciated.
