Helen Joan Burns – Pawtucket

Helen Joan Burns, 97, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Jeanne Jugan Residence. She was the wife of the late James T. Burns.

Born in Oxford, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Flora (Henault) Strack. She resided in Oxford for eight years before moving to New Jersey then to Pawtucket.

She also lived in Florida, New York and Lincoln prior to moving back to Pawtucket 10 years ago. Helen was a bit of a “rambler” moving 30 times in her life.

A graduate of Pawtucket High School, in her youth she was employed as a bookkeeper in various offices and a waitress.

She spent the most memorable years of her life as a caregiver to many family members and friends and as a volunteer to several charitable organizations. She also enjoyed reading, cooking, needlework and chats with family and friends. She also enjoyed making special cakes for her grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her daughter Paula Shorten of Lincoln; her son Robert E. Burns and his wife, Susan, of Mystic, Conn.; grandchildren Jacquelyn Dionne, Kelly Spaziano, Kristen Purro,
Heather Greenman, and Thomas Burns, great-grandchildren Danielle, Austin, Jillian, Alyssa, Declan, River and Isaiah, and nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late James F. Burns and the sister of the late Claire Duclos, Evelyn Bellemer and Edward Strack.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 10:45 a.m., in the chapel at the Jeanne Jugan Residence, 964 Main St., Pawtucket, RI 02860. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A private burial will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory to The Jeanne Jugan Residence would be appreciated.
