Scituate’s Vinacco receives Stonehill’s McCarthy Award

EASTON, Mass. – Scituate’s Kenny Vinacco, a senior distance runner on the Stonehill College men’s cross country and track and field squads, was recently named the recipient of the school’s prestigious Father John McCarthy C.S.C. Leadership Award during the college’s end of the year Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony.

The award is presented annually to one senior male and female student-athlete in good academic standing and citizenship on the basis of their exemplary leadership attributes.

Vinacco, a 2014 graduate of Scituate High, captained Stonehill’s men’s cross country and track and field programs during his senior year. He led the Skyhawks to an undefeated cross country season that led up to the NCAA Division II Championships, where they placed 16th for their highest finish at the nationals since 2006.

Stonehill also won the New England championship for the first time in program history, captured its ninth NE-10 championship with its first title since 2013, and won its fourth East Regional title to earn a trip to the NCAA Championships for the 15th straight year.

The men’s track and field program also posted third-place finishes at both the NE-10 indoor and outdoor championships, with Vinacco earning All-Conference honors at all three NE-10 Championships this year. He also added All-Region honors in cross country and the indoor 5,000-meter run.
