Elaine (Dowding) Steere – Cumberland

Elaine (Dowding) Steere, of Cumberland, formerly of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully at Friendly Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

She was the beloved wife of the late John Calvert Steere.

Born in North Providence on July 26, 1927, she was the loving daughter of the late Charles and Vera (Lake) Dowding.

Elaine had made her home in Cumberland for the past eight years and was a former resident of Pawtucket. Her family, whom she loved and treasured dearly, was the greatest joy of her life. She loved vacationing on Block Island “her island” at the Surf Hotel w/ family and friends for more than 50 years. She also loved to attend Paw Sox games and cheer on the Boston Red Sox & Celtics. But she most loved to watch her grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time enjoying their company.

She was a communicant of Christ Church in Lincoln and was an active parishioner in the former St. Martin Church in Pawtucket. Elaine also enjoyed playing bingo, bowling with friends and taking lots of pictures.

She is survived by her devoted son, Robert C. Steere, and his spouse, Karlene, of North Smithfield; stepson Calvert Jr. of Connecticut. She was the cherished grandmother of Elizabeth Steere; Catherine Kelly and her husband, Patrick; Jaymes Steere and his fiancé, Katie-Anna; and Chad Steere. She was the dear sister of Barbara Dunphy and Richard Dowding. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews.

Her Memorial Service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, June 16, 10 a.m., in Christ Church, 1643 Lonsdale Ave., Lincoln, R.I.
