Danita Spameni – Smithfield

Danita Spameni – Smithfield

Danita Spameni, 83, a dearest wife, mother, grandmother and friend entered into eternal life on June 5, 2018, while at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in East Greenwich, she was a daughter of the late Daniel T. and Catherine V. (O’Brien) Clarke. She has been a Smithfield resident for more than 50 years.

Prior to retirement, Danita worked as a teacher's assistant with developmentally disabled children for nearly 30 years. That labor of love rewarded her with lifelong friendships as well as a deep abiding compassion and commitment to others.

Danita was an avid collector, and loved shopping for antiques. Her vast ever-expanding collection of hatpins was at the heart of that pursuit…despite her not owning a hat. She also loved to travel with her husband, as well as family and friends. She was especially fond of her many trips to Italy and Ireland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, and is survived by her four children: Kathy Spameni of Smithfield, Karen Miller and her husband, Charles of Smithfield, Peter Spameni of Smithfield, Paul Spameni and his wife, Kathy, of Barrington; three grandchildren: Ryan Miller, Rachel Miller, and Lily Spameni; a brother: Thomas E. Clarke of North Kingstown; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Walter B. Clarke, Sr., and Beatrice Smith.

The Spameni family would like to thank the many kindhearted doctors and healthcare providers who gave their care and support, with special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Johnston Dialysis Center, and the visiting nurses from Hope Hospice.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, June 12, at 8:30 a.m., from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44, at Greenville Common, Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Phillip's Church in Greenville at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Acotes Hill Cemetery, Glocester. Visitation will be held Monday, June 11, from 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Danita's wishes, the family asks that donations be made to Special Olympics Rhode Island, 370 George Washington Hwy., Smithfield, RI 02917-1921.
