LINCOLN – Lincoln resident Nicholas D. Barone, D.D.S., M.S., is the 2018-2019 president-elect of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). He was installed in a ceremony at the board’s President’s Dinner on May 8, in Washington, D.C., during the 2018 annual session of the American Association of Orthodontists.

Prior to his appointment as president, Barone was an ABO director, representing the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, and chair of the ABO Clinical Examination Committee. He is also a member of the Executive and Policy Committees.

Barone practices with his son, Nicholas P. Barone, DMD, in North Providence and Smithfield, and has been active in numerous dental and orthodontic organizations. He is a past president of the AAO Foundation, the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, the Rhode Island Dental Association, the Rhode Island Association of Orthodontists, and the Providence District Dental Society.

Barone received his doctorate in dentistry from the Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1975 and earned his certificate in orthodontics from the Medical College of Virginia at the Virginia Commonwealth University in 1977.

He served on the Rhode Island Senate Oral Health Commission from 2000 to 2004 and is a member of the Angle East, a component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He is a fellow of the International College of Dentists and has been board certified since 1990.
